Jo Blaak began her musical studies as a child of three on the piano.  Her grandmother, a European concert violinist, was influential in her love for the violin and lovingly introduced the instrument to her at the age of 9. She continued her studies with the late Harry Gomez another European concert violinist and at the age of 11 asked her join the Vancouver Youth Symphony, which she played with until she was 16. She studied the viola with world renowned Stephen Dann at the age of 12 until she was 15. Joanne is a past member of the Fraser Valley Symphony and continues to thoroughly enjoy and teach classical music.
Jo finished both the Suzuki and RCM violin methods, as well as she has gone on to become a highly proficient and recognized fiddler.  She began teaching in 2005 and taught fiddle for a number of years at North Poplar Fine Arts School in Abbotsford as well as at Unity Christian Elementary School in Chilliwack. She currently is the Music Director of the Central Fraser Valley Fiddlers as well as she founded and presently teaches the Central Fraser Valley Kids’ Club, which plays alongside the CFVF group. Often Jo has been asked, what is the difference between a violin and a fiddle? The answer, the violin sings and the fiddle dances!

Jo is looking forward to her 2nd year at A & D Music and encourages all of those both young and old who’ve always wanted to play violin or fiddle to sign up for lessons, you’ll be glad you did!
